About Us

BottleNeck Calculator is a free, browser-based tool built to answer one question quickly and clearly: is your CPU or your GPU the part actually limiting your PC's performance? We built it because most PC builders and upgraders — from first-timers to people who've assembled a dozen rigs — end up asking the same thing before spending money on a new part: will this pairing actually let me use the performance I'm paying for?

Why We Built This

A lot of existing bottleneck calculators reduce the answer to a single, context-free percentage. In reality, whether a pairing is "bottlenecked" depends heavily on what you're doing with the PC and what resolution you're running at — the same CPU and GPU can be perfectly balanced for 4K gaming and meaningfully CPU-bound at 1080p. We wanted a tool that accounts for that, explains the result in plain language instead of just a number, and gives you a concrete next step (a better-matched part) rather than leaving you to guess.

How the Calculator Works

Each CPU and GPU in our database is scored on a relative 0–100 performance index built from aggregated third-party benchmark data. For gaming, we model an estimated frame-rate ceiling for each part at your chosen resolution and take the lower of the two as your realistic result — the gap between them is your bottleneck. For rendering/productivity and general use, we weight each part's contribution by how CPU- or GPU-dependent that type of workload typically is. These are illustrative estimates meant for comparing parts and guiding upgrade decisions — not measured benchmarks, and not a substitute for real-world testing on your exact system.

What We're Not

We're not a retailer, we don't sell hardware, and we're not affiliated with Intel, AMD, or Nvidia. BottleNeck Calculator is an independent, ad-free-by-default tool — our only goal is giving you an honest, fast read on a CPU/GPU pairing so you can make a better-informed decision, whether that's before a build, before a single-part upgrade, or when troubleshooting a PC that isn't performing the way its specs suggest it should.
